Why It Matters
Water runoff—especially from steep driveways or undeveloped lots—can
cause severe erosion and damage to our shared roads. By taking simple preventative steps, we help protect road longevity, reduce repair costs,
and ensure safer access for all.
What You Can Do
1. Assess Your Property’s Drainage Flow
Walk your property during rainfall to observe how water flows.
Redirect runoff away from the road and neighboring lots.
2. Install Drainage Solutions
Use cattle guards, culverts, or stone trenches to guide water safely
into ditches or vegetated areas.
Make sure solutions are open-ended and free of obstructions.
3. Maintain Ditches and Gutters
Regularly clear sediment, branches, and debris.
Do not dispose of waste or construction material in common ditches.
4. Preserve Natural Vegetation
Ground cover and root systems stabilize soil and slow runoff.
Avoid large-scale clearing unless essential, and always pair with erosion
control.
5. Avoid Unpermitted Land Movement
Major grading or excavation should be reviewed with LHCA.
Help us protect the integrity of our shared infrastructure.
📍 Community Collaboration
We’re currently mapping vulnerable areas. If you notice problematic runoff
or drainage concerns in your area, please let us know. Working together
allows us to keep Las Huacas safe, accessible, and beautiful.
Thank you for doing your part. Let’s continue being good stewards of our
land and our community.
